House Republicans Schedule Ethics Study Committee Meetings
COLUMBIA – The House Republican Caucus announced three meetings today to debate reforming our state’s ethics laws. The meetings will be open to the public.
The meetings will be:
- Thursday, November 1 at 10 a.m.
- Thursday, November 8 at 10 a.m.
- Wednesday, November 28, at 1 p.m.
The first two meetings will be in Room 101 of the Blatt House Office Building.
“The Ethics Study Committee is anxious to hear from the public and to get citizens’ input on how we need to change our ethics laws,†said Rep. Murrell Smith, chairman of the study committee. “It has been 20 years since we passed our ethics laws and many things have changed in 20 years – chief of which is the widespread adoption of e-mail and other technologies that weren’t widely available in the early 1990s.
“With that in mind, the committee will be soliciting testimony from parties we know are interested in the issue, and at the end of each meeting, we will allow public input from any citizen who chooses to attend.â€
If a group is interested in testifying before the committee, please contact Caucus Communications Director Jason Zacher via e-mail at email@example.com or call the Caucus office at (803) 734-3139.
