Bingham Names Republican Ethics Reform Study Committee
COLUMBIA – House Majority Leader Kenny Bingham announced the 10 Caucus members who will serve on the House Republican Caucus Ethics Reform Study Committee.
“This is a committee charged with doing vitally important work and I appointed members who I know are respected on both sides of the aisle,†said Majority Leader Bingham, R-Cayce. “I look forward to what this committee recommends, and I expect the House will act on it quickly when the recommendations are received.â€
The House Republican and Democratic Caucuses announced earlier today that study committees appointed by both Caucus Leaders will be urged to work together during each of their deliberations.
“I’m honored to be leading this committee and can’t wait to get started,†said Rep. Murrell Smith, R-Sumter. “Over the last two years, we’ve seen numerous ethics loopholes open that must be dealt with quickly. With the start of a new session in January, it’s time for this committee to get to work so we can pass legislation when we return.â€
“Most people might not think ethics reform is as important right now as improving the economy and creating good jobs, but the issue cuts to the heart of confidence in government. It’s critically important.â€
The members of the committee are:
- Chairman Murrell Smith, R-Sumter
- Rep. Rita Allison, R-Lyman
- Rep. Derham Cole, R-Spartanburg
- Rep. Joe Danning, R-Goose Creek
- Rep. Phyllis Henderson, R-Greer
- Rep. Jenny Horne, R-Dorchester
- Rep. Andy Patrick, R-Hilton Head
- Rep. Tommy Pope, R-York
