House Leadership Statements on Southwest Airlines Announcement

 

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina House Republican Caucus leadership issued the following statements regarding Southwest Airlines’ announcement to begin service at the Greenville-Spartanburg and Charleston international airports.

House Majority Leader Kenny Bingham, R-Cayce, said:

“This is a fantastic announcement that I am sure will benefit all South Carolinians.  South Carolina has needed a large discount air carrier for many years since our airports have some of the highest airfares in the nation.  I thank the executives at Southwest Airlines for making this decision and improving access to affordable air travel in our state.

“Southwest is one of the world’s most respected and successful airlines and I am proud they are coming to the Palmetto State.”

 
Assistant Majority Leader Bruce Bannister, R-Greenville, said:

“South Carolina is more than ready for Southwest.  Greenville’s economic developers have said tens of thousands of jobs and billions in new economic development hinged – in part – on low-cost airfare and the availability of flights into Greenville.  I hope today’s announcement will kick-start a new revolution in economic development in Greenville, Charleston, and throughout our state.”
