Social Studies Teachers Thank House Members For Not Throwing Them Overboard State needs to replace PACT test without dumping US History Columbia, SC -- Yesterday afternoon, the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies delivered tea bags to all the members of the House to thank them for supporting our teachers.
This move by teachers was in response to a plan from the Department of Education. The Department's plan was originally designed to replace the PACT test, but did many things to water down the Education Accountability Act, including ending testing in U.S. History.
Referencing the Boston Tea Party, Social Studies teachers put a note on the tea bags they delivered asking lawmakers to not "dump social studies overboard from the S.S. Accountability!"
House Speaker Bobby Harrell and House leaders have since rejected that plan and introduced legislation (H. 4662) that replaces the PACT test with a diagnostic test while keeping accountability in our educational system.
"The House thanks our Social Studies teachers for their support," Speaker Harrell said. "Working with our teachers who are in the classroom every day and giving them the tools they need to educate our children is our goal. The House will continue to fight for our teachers and work to stop any actions that water down accountability in education."
