ANDERSON COUNTY —
An Anderson County seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives
has opened up with the official announcement by Rep. Michael D.
Thompson that he would not be running for re-election.
Thompson, a Republican, has represented Anderson County in the House since 2000.
His district, District 9, begins in the city of Anderson, mostly
east of Main Street, and stretches up to Williamston. It is one of
three state House districts that cover the city of Anderson.
“With last week’s announcement of a candidate seeking House District
9, what many of you have expected for months was clarified,” Thompson
said in a statement. “I do not plan to seek re-election to the state
House of Representatives. I made this decision last fall after a great
deal of consideration.” |
